Yoma Emore
Digital and Textile Artist
Bio
Yoma Emore (b. 1997) is a Nigerian visual artist who works across the digital space and textiles. Her works combine her background as a painter and her interest in conceptual forms of Art, as well as her interests in writing and storytelling. She uses motifs, repeat patterns and text to construct her narratives. She especially finds the relationship between text and image to be interesting, as they are two forms of communicative techniques which seem to always be in a struggle for dominance, yet they are both descriptive at an abstract level of storytelling. Her stories often draw inspiration from archival materials and biographical and cultural experiences.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Art & Design, Media & Cultural Studies from the University of Worcester, and a Master's degree, in Textile Design from Chelsea College of Arts (UAL).
In 2017, she was awarded the Worcestershire County Council Art Award and in 2023, she was named one of Rele Arts Foundation’s Young Contemporary artist.
